The Highlands Bike Course

The West Highlands bike course is a cracker. For 175 miles it winds its way past lochs and high mountains, from open moor to the open sea.

Part 1 (the first 95 miles) takes you from Loch Morar and past Fort William to Invergarry, where it turns west and climbs steeply to the high point of the route. To see the exact route for the first 95 miles, using Sanoodi, click on the following link:

Part 2 - After turning off the A87 and heading north the route becomes progressively more remote, but no less dramatic, using what must be some of the most deserted A-roads in the UK. Shortly after Shieldaig the route turns off the main road and takes the "scenic" way towards Applecross. To see the exact route for the last 80 miles, using Sanoodi, click on the following link:

Below is a classic view of the West Highlands A-roads

The route goes right past Eilean Donan Castle. Understandably Scotlands most photographed Castle, having appeared in movies such as Highlander and Braveheart.
