Know someone who is racing? Got your place and fancy some "friendly" banter with the other competitors? Exchange training tips or perhaps arrange some outings. Apologies for not having any fancy forum system, but this should be a great way to build some pre-race cameraderie.

Message - Enduroman

From - Ed

Hi Guys
Inspired by Steve and Julian I was entered into your event with just 5 weeks to get ready. My plan was simple. Don't look at courses and leave totally all the planning to them.
I wish to thank you for such a fantastic adventure. An extremely well
organised event, superbly designed bike course which forced me to draw from places I thought had long been closed and a run course that seemed to be forever going up another climb.
I am writing this with so many great pictures flitting in and out of my mind all I can say BRILLIANT keep up the good work. I HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN.
Yours in sport
Ed

Message - The weekend that was...

From - Jules

Still dissapointed but also 100% sure of the decision to stop...by all
accounts I was wandering all over the road just before Pen y Pass, I had good clothing on but was very cold and also sweating loads, and the white lines on  the floor were moving all over the place...time to call it a day. Up till then, it was an awesome day. The swim was magical..I saw  Dogfish (very similair to small sharks..and at which time Steve..think it was Steve..tapped my feet and really made me jump!) very large crabs, and twice we  swam over a monster jellyfish, which was a good 15-16" across.
Quick change and off on the bike...so much for the first decent hill being at 16 miles...straight out of the village was enough and set the scene for the day.Having downloaded my Polar, it suggests a height accumulation of 3850 metres...my thighs would agree with that. The first 100km went ok..but it was a struggle from there really. Iwanted to pull my computer off and throw it away...down to 10kmh at some points and the km were ticking by so slowly...so slowly. And then there were the descents..fantastic times, pretty scary though. Many stops were had as I was absolutely wasted towards the end..this is  when your support crew really come into there own as it was them that got me to Llanberis; I was once on a rug next to my sisters car, eyes closed thinking ..'no
more..just fall asleep'..but some food and encouraging words , and 20 mins later  on my way. Many stops to change clothes..soaking wet from sweat or just better  coverage from the sun...and the countryside was just amazing. It was worth everything to see this part of Wales.
Once on to the A5, i knew i was going to make it as i know that route  to Llanberis very well...although a couple of miles before Betwys y Coed my legs suddenly gave up again and it was still such a struggle to keep
moving...spinning on the flat in 42 x 26..!!! I was waiting for kids to pass me on their Raleigh Choppers! The drag from Plas y Brenin to the pass was not  nice..but the climb up to Pen y Pass was a breeze..it really did feel like  someone was pushing me up, and the descent down the pass was a real  rush..thankfully all the usual wandering sheep had heard we were on our way and  sensibly had an early night!
A rapid T2..due more to the midges than any thing else...and off on  the
run..ha ha,not for long! Ran fine to Nant peris and the start of the climb  out of the pass..already decided to walk all hills, so soon did...and the rest is history!  Many thanks for a wicked event.

Bike stats:  275km-10:34ride time-26.02av.speed-72kmh.maxspeed..so i think i had nearly 2  hours off the bike..what a slacker!!  Many slaps on the back to Mike..incredible effort..and to Eddie and Steve for finishing..awesome-I feel  very small today. Lovely to meet everyone and Isobel has  already started training for your 2023 Ultra-ultra event! Will send some  constuctive thoughts in the next week or so....have a good summer...Jules, Michelle, and little Isobel.

Message - The weather!!

From - Chris

The forecast on the Met Office website seems benign enough at the moment:

"It will remain mostly dry and very warm with sunny spells and light winds. Increased risk of scattered thundery showers developing over Friday and Saturday."

See the full report here.

The BBC seem to be backing up this point of view - here. (You'd hope so, since the BBC ostensibly get their information from the Met Office).

Nobody seems to be able to agree on wind direction, with suggestions of both Southerlies (which would be generally helpful for the bike) on the further south sections of the route, and East-North-Easterlies (less so) in North Wales, and later in the day/evening.

The Accuweather report is here.

In general our advice would be probably to make sure you have clothing/equipment for any conditions, but breathe a sigh of relief that it hopefully shouldn't be torrential downpours for the full distance - please don't rule rain out altogether though! And be sure that your support car has sufficient fluids and suncream on board should the forecasts prove correct and we do get 25 degree scattered sunshine - heat exhaustion combined with sleep deprivation is to be avoided.

Not long now...

Message - The briefing (28/05/07)

From - Ross

Just in case you are concerned, Wales introduced the smoking ban a few months back, so there is no smoke in any pubs or enclosed public spaces. No need to worry about being asphyxiated during the briefing.

:-)

Message - Last big sessions... maybe! (27/05/07)

From - Jules Taylor

Well... a very long ride yesterday, combining a trip to Tri UK to swap my wetsuit as it was proving a tad too small... which they did no questions asked, even upgrading it to this years model... superb service. Eleven mile run in the pouring rain... with new suit in the rucksack (should have worn it I think!!)... to Clevedon Pool and a good long swim... then a much longer loop back home... yep, in the pouring rain, though now with a crap headwind and a rucksack very much wetter and heavier than before... oh well, these are the sessions that just can't be replicated and which make other sessions seem so much easier! Tomorrow will be a mixed bag of turbo bricks, swims and generally tiring myself out. All seems good and now comes the long wait until a week on saturday... boy will it drag! Hope all is going well for everyone else... the long range forecast is pretty poor, so don't forget to bring every single piece of sports clothing and waterproofs you own... believe me, if the weather is crap, you WILL be glad of them all... although it just might be lovely and sunny... oh, was that a pig just flying across the sky...??

Take it easy these last few days and see you all on the Friday... Jules

Message - Hi from Enduroman!

From - Steve Haywood

We would just like to say a big thank you to the race organisers for putting together this awesome event. With such a small field, which will add to the unique experience, the event will provide us with the perfect preparation for the Arch to Arc this summer!! We will be competing as one team and will have only one support vehicle. The tough course and the sleep deprivation will provide an excellent challenge. For this reason don't expect us to be anywhere near the front, but at the back, taking in the beautiful scenery, trying to make the event last as long as possible!!! With that said, I am at work first thing Monday morning!! Looking forward to meeting you all at the pub on Friday night for a Guiness!!

Message - now very nervous... (14/05/07)

From - Jules Taylor

Well, its going to be great to have the Enduroman guys racing...cant wait to see some proper endurance athletes in action, and judging from their blogs things are looking good for them...sooo much training!!

Every thing going well here..no quantity, but definite quality, and...touching wood...no injuries at all this year so good consistancy. Swimming better than ever...finally managed to ditch the pull buoy this year (not good for your technique, they should be banned!)....running really good, lots of run-walks for time on my feet, and plenty of stiff ,short hill reps for strength and to get used to sore thighs! Cycling to work and back for the last year..so good base, and some slow long rides now paying off. Still messing about with position..not too much, but feel the need for tweaks here and there....oooh, and PLENTY of turbo work!...Yawn!

Four weeks to go...how is everyone else doing, or is it all top secret...is everything i've written a load of fibs???  Keep it up and see you all vvv soon....jules

Apologies for the delay, but after one final visit last weekend, the details are all now definitive and finalised. Check out some quality photos in the updated info pages. We are now in the process of putting maps together for your support crews and they will be sent out soon.

If you have any questions let me know at the usual address - rlovell@accelerace.co.uk

Message - Part I of the run route now Online (21/04/07)

From - Ross (Accelerace)

I know you are all desperate to see the run route. Huge apologies for the delay, but the first part is now online. You can view it by clicking here. Zoom in to see the full detail. It shows the first 12 miles or so. You can maybe get some idea of the profile by looking at the contours and the road arrows, but I will try to sort out a profile map as well.

Parts II and III coming soon.

The cycle route now also finishes at Pen-Y-Pass. There is plenty of space here for your support teams and running water/toilets etc.

Message - Hope everyone is well (02/04/07)

From - Ross (Accelerace)

Hi everyone,

I hope all is well and that you are not too anxious yet. This is just a quick apology for the lack of updates. We will have all the details (including swim and run) up on the site in the next three weeks. Yourself and your support team will be given a thorough and substantial set of race day instructions and maps before the day in the post so that you can pre-plan where to stop and get food and drink along the way.

Take care over the next few weeks and we look forward to seeing you in June.

Ross

Message - Any tips? (02/04/07)

From - Mike Trew

Hi

Training is going so so. Never think I am doing enough. Went out and completed a hilly 207km bike race yesterday. Not sure I could run 38 miles after, but looking forward to the event, Getting a little scared about running in the dark through across the Welsh countryside, my map reading is not the best

Keep up the training and see you in June, Mike

p.s. I see Jules has done a lot of this before, so any training tips?

Message - UK Ultra Tri at last... (07/02/2007)

From - Jules Taylor

Well... haven't been this excited since xmas... isn't it fantastic to at last have a proper ultra distance triathlon in the UK! Really hope it is a huge success and from it others will follow. It is one of the biggest hurdles facing people who wish to push it beyond ironman, that of getting together friends to support you...and now it can all be done on one weekend instead of travelling to Europe...yahoo!!

Of course the training is now in full swing, although for myself...even with a good endurance base...things are progressing at a pace that I feel is below what is required, with good reason! I know it is sooo easy to get carried away at this time...February already, and only 4 months to go...however, it is better to get to that startline having a decent, progressive, INJURY FREE build-up, than a manic overtrain-get ill/injured-rest-overtrain cycle. I have been there in the past and it is no fun. Keep the consistency and the enthusiasm and the day will look after itself when the time comes...that's the theory anyway.

Good luck with the build-up everyone...I have looked all the names up on Google to see who everyone is...can't wait to meet you all in June...must go for a 10k swim now (joke! 1500m more like). Lets keep a bit of banter going, it does get boring doing a lot of training.

Cheers....Jules Taylor
