Stuart Reid coming over the Pass of the Cattle
Date 22/06/08
Stuart Reid wins inaugural Accelerace West Highlands Ultra!!
An epic race, characterised by good conditions early on, and torrential downpours and driving wind overnight - Stuart Reid won in 20hr19, laying down the gauntlet for future years, with Gary Fegan coming home 15 minutes later in 20hr34. Paul McGreal finished in 23hr31 and Nick Mansley in 23hr55. Superb performances from all competitors - unfortunately the cold water meant 3 withdrawals from the swim, and Carl Atkinson was forced to withdraw after about 17 miles of the run due to the weather. Huge congratulations to all the athletes, as well as to their excellent support crews. Look out for a full report/results and photos on the site shortly, and if any competitors or their support crews have photos/reports please send them in. Here's to 2009!

Just when things looked to have recovered from the trials and tribulations of Day 1, disaster strikes again. Ross having some more really unlucky mechanical issues - hopefully we'll get the full story later. This is all starting to feel a bit like one of those Formula 1 teams that can do really well as long as their car survives the entire race...Read more here.

Shaun Lamb and Jo Carritt win the Mid Wales Ultra Tri!!
A fantastic performance from Shaun saw him take victory with a stunning time of 16hrs53, with Jo winning the womens' category in 18hrs44. All competitors did brilliantly - and the weather held up despite our pre-race concerns over rain. The swim was shortened, due to temperature and a stiff offshore breeze, but from that point conditions were reasonably favourable, with athletes even enjoying some sunshine for the later sections of the bike, and a warm night meant the sporadic drizzle didn't cause too much trouble. Some super individual performances, and a reasonably tight field meant the race was (hopefully) enjoyed by all, and as organisers we'd like to thank all competitors, and especially all support crews for making the event such a success. We'll have more on the site soon - including full results, reports and photos/videos - keep checking back. If any competitors are writing event reports, please email them to the usual address - we'd be happy to feature them on the site. For those tempted by more Ultra action - check our West Highlands event at the end of June in the events section - it promises to be a cracker as well.

Excitement in Richmond Park...(by Chris) I don't know if anyone else noticed, but whilst doing a few laps of the Park on Saturday evening, I was intrigued to see a pick-up truck loaded with a large amount of general gardening detritus (branches etc) pulled over by a police car onto a small access track off the main road. Suffice to say riding laps is not the best way to keep track of what unfolded, but the three installments I got (each separated by about 20 minutes), went as follows: 1. Police man talking to three guys stood by their truck, policeman apparently unimpressed. 2. Police man still talking to three guys - now rooting around in the pile of branches, generally tugging at stuff and (I thought) seemingly trying to prove that it wasn't loaded very securely. 3. Police man debating with two pretty irate members of the party, with the third sat in the back of the police car, handcuffed. It was really this very last element which caught my particular attention. I have no idea what the whole thing was about really, but it all seemed fairly bizarre from my (slightly fatigued) perspective. Just thought I'd share... Any suggestions as to what might be behind all this, answers on a postcard to the usual address (or email). Or if you can share the legalities of branch-loading into pick-ups that would also be helpful. Was a nice ride though.

Jim completes New Zealand Coast to Coast race!!
Having gained the necessary kayak qualification with a whole 2 weeks to spare, Jim raced in what's rated as the World's toughest multisport challenge (Day 1 - 3km run, 55km cycle, 33km mountain run, Day 2 15km cycle, 67km kayak, 70km cycle) - no mean feat - finishing in a time of 17:24hrs - "I knackered my knee on the first day making most of the race a very painful, teeth gritting experience...could have been a fair bit quicker without the knee trouble and if I hadn't capsized on the paddle - though only fell out once when I hit a rock". Sounds tough enough to me - huge congratulations to Jim, who's already eyeing up next year's event...
Date 03/02/08
Only 3 months till the Mid Wales Ultra!!
And it's getting exciting again.. Lots of interest, some nervous phonecalls, a very talented field, and our first female Ultra competitors - this should be a cracker... Soggy Bottom? Ross initiated himself into the world of competitive MTB racing at the Soggy Bottom 2 race near Plymouth. A highly creditable 21st place in the Sport competition was enough for him to utter the immortal lines "I am a natural at mountain biking". Pride comes before a fall...
Date 05/01/08
Exploring the North Wales MTB scene.. Ross and Chris return from a hugely enjoyable, and largely accident-free jaunt to Llanberis for a weekend of mountain biking. Check the video here.
Date 18/10/07
An even damper Cornish Marathon.. Chris added to his collection of extremely wet runs, with a trot around one of the UK's finest. "Neither quick, nor dry", he commented afterwards, as he sat in the van for half an hour with the heaters on full trying to ward off hypothermia.
Date 29/09/07
A very damp Lidingoloppet.. Ross and Chris journeyed to Sweden for the last time this year to take part in a brilliant 20mile XC run around the Lidingo nature reserve on the outskirts of Stockholm. The usual recipe of late-night flights, over-indulging on local cuisine and drink, sleeping on the floor of other people's hotel rooms, combined with a proper deluge of torrential rain made for a simply fantastic weekend. And Ross's kenee didn't explode, so everyone was happy..
Date 15/09/07
Laurence Pidcock and Helen Whitley win the 2007 Accelerace Extreme Tri!! Congratulations to all competitors in this year's Extreme triathlon - a great performance from everyone, and a brilliant standard of racing. The weather gods clearly felt embarrassed about ruining everyone's day last year, and rewarded us with some sublime sunshine and clear skies from the start of the swim to the end of the run - and we had a great race from start to finish. Thanks to all the competitors and marshals, and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves (as the event gets further away, we also trust that some of the pain of the seemingly never-ending hills fades in the memory, to be bolster that sense of achievement) - Well Done!! Full results on the site this evening - and a full report in the offing - please also check out Duncan Tindall's great site www.tri-photos.co.uk for some brilliant shots of the event.
Date 13/09/07
Two days till the Extreme Tri.... And the weather forecast is looking pretty good - all competitors who have beeen performing ritual sun dances are asked to continue to do so though, since we really don't want to take any chances this year... Hopefully everyone's training's been going well - now it's a question of the all important pre-race nutrition. Please note that we'll be answering emails this evening, but that as of tomorrow there won't be anyone by a computer, so it'll have to be a phone call.
Date 09/09/07
Fantastic performance from Emily at the London Duathlon!! Team Accelerace's very own genuine girl member Emily competed in the London Duathlon today and came home with a fantastic 3rd place in her age group in a time of 1:58:37. Huge congratulations to her - a sign of things to come...

Date 07/09/07
Just over a week till the Extreme!! And now we really are excited. We're also, in a slightly demented way, praying for the weather to hold. It's been glorious down in Devon for the last week or so, and the course looks stunning. If it can just hold on for one more week.....
Check the event pages for details on the race, and for late entries!

We've got at least 2 brave souls coming back for more.. At least two competitors have signed up from 2006 (there may be others, who've entered under stage names - we'll see on the day).. Fingers crossed they get to see the course in non-apocalyptic weather this time around.

Team Accelerace at the Cologne 226
Chris has been over to take part in the first running of the iron-distance Cologne226, and, given the level of training was pretty minimal (and he was using a brand new poncy aero seatpost for the first time ever, which nearly crippled him), seemed to quite enjoy himself. Expect a race report at some stage.
Date 01/09/07
2 weeks till the Extreme Tri!! ...and entries still seem to be coming in - preparation's going really well - we've got a fantastic location in the River Dart Country Park (see link from home page), and are really looking forward to the day - if you haven't entered, but are thinking about it - go for it, you won't regret it!

Fantastic trip to Norway as combined support with Endurancelife
We're just back from a brilliant trip over to one of our favourite events, the Norseman, where we provided a support package for a selection of uber-athletes as they attempted the world's toughest ironman-distance triathlon. It's with enormous pride that I can say that everyone finished the event, in what were truly hellish conditions, and the atmosphere amongst all the competitors was brilliant. We're compiling a race report (as usual - honestly, we really are, it's just we're pretty busy at the moment), and a video, and gathering all the photos together at the moment, so expect all these on the site soon(ish). And an enormous well done to all competitors - truly brilliant performances from all.

Chris won his age-group and was the second Brit home in 14hrs 40mins, enjoying every bit of it. Matt's first ever triathlon was 'a lot longer than he was expecting', but he finished in style, also picking up a black finisher's t-shirt in 17hrs.
