Mid Wales Message Board 2008
Know someone who is racing? Got your place and fancy some "friendly" banter with the other competitors? Exchange training tips or perhaps arrange some outings. Apologies for not having any fancy forum system, but this should be a great way to build some pre-race cameraderie.
Drop an email to rlovell@accelerace.co.uk with a short message and "Mid Wales Message" as the subject, and we will put it up on this page.

Also, a real good site to keep an eye on is Magic Seaweed. It is a surf forecast site that will give us a pretty good idea of what the sea will be doing in West Wales. If you click on the link and check out the graphs, it is really encouraging to note that the lowest wave height of the week will be at 6am on Saturday morning. Lets hope that stays the same.

If you are keeping an eye on the weather this week (I know I am), probably the best site is The Met Office. Seems to be a bit more reliable than the BBC.
Check it out...

Hi,
Just a quick note to wish everybody good luck on the 3rd of May. It's a fantastic race and a great sense of achievement at the end. Wishing I was there. Good luck to all the competitors.
Last years survivor,
Mike Trew
Just to reassure you that all competitors and support vehicles will receive a full route narrative at the pre-race meet on the Friday evening (May 2nd). The full route will also be marked with orange road paint.
Last year no arrows or signs were used because we couldn't be sure that over 175 miles the signs wouldn't be tampered with. Non of the competitors took a wrong turn so you shouldn't have any problems.
Cheers,
Ross

Hi Alex (and everyone else),
Your plan sounds pretty similar to the way people worked it last year. It is important that the car is never too far from you. Make sure you car waits at the tops of the major climbs. Some are surprisingly steep.
All but one of the guys last year ran with people through the night, and the one who didn't failed to finish. Our winner, Mike, had a rolling support crew taking it in turns to run with him.
There is a section of the run (after Pen Y Pass) on which will not have access to the car. It is only short, but we chose this route as more preferable to running down a section of particularly winding road with no pavement.
Keep the questions coming.
Cheers,
Ross

Just wondering how other people are planning to crew the race. I was thinking the car could drive ahead 5 miles and stop wait for me, so i could stop if i need to, as they pull away they could talk to me through the window, sort of like a rolling aid station. The run i thought i'd do the same except have help to go round the bit just after bethania where the car could meet up with me again. i am assuming id need help running the out and back from llanberis as well. does this seem like a sensible plan?

Living in Wales i've been lucky enough to ride around a fair bit of the bike course, and i've also run the Snowdon marathon route which the run follows to a considerable degree. But wow, have I just discovered what makes this an ultra challenge. On Sunday we rode along the section of run route from Plas Gwynant, rejoining the road to Beddgelert at Pont Aberglaslyn. Can only be described as the running equivalent of a roller coaster!! And probably some of the most stunning views i've seen since moving to Wales (shame i'll probably be running it in the dark!).
By the way are you finding all your friends and family think you've completely lost the plot attempting this???
Happy training everyone! :-)
